INTRODUCTION TO IMPROVISATION

Nervous about improvisation? Looking for something high-energy and fun?

Chimera Theatre is hosting an introduction to improvisation workshop right here in Kamloops!
 

This three hour workshop on improvisation will be led by Melissa Thomas, Artistic Producer of Project X Theatre, who will teach you all about the fundamentals of improvisations skills, training techniques and exercises. This workshop will provide structure and guidelines that will enable performers to feel comfortable and confident in any improvised scenario they find themselves in. During the class, you will be challenged to start obeying your impulses and to work collaboratively with others while receiving personalized coaching. Whether you’re new to improvisation or want to learn some new skills, this workshop is for you!

 

Workshop is recommended for ages 12 and up. Cost is $30 per participant.

Please note that space is limited and we suggest registering as soon as possible.

About Melissa Thomas

 

Melissa holds an MFA in directing from the University of Calgary and a BA in Theatre from Thompson Rivers University. She has been involved in the Kamloops’ theatre community for the past 15 years and had the pleasure of working with Western Canada Theatre, Project X Theatre, BC Living Arts, Saucy Fops and most recently Chimera Theatre. Melissa has also taught acting classes at Thompson Rivers University and for WCT’s Stage One Theatre School.

 

Melissa is the Artistic Producer for Project X Theatre and has directed many of their productions: The Shakespeare Show, Alice in Wonderland, Fantastic Mr. Fox, and James and the Giant Peach. She has also appeared in many previous X-Fest seasons: Munsch Ado About Nothing, Hamlet, As You Like It, and The Tempest. Melissa has also assistant directed several shows at Western Canada Theatre: Silent Chap, Fiddler on the Roof, and Trying.
